During its August board meeting, the Oakwood Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a Voter Approved Tax Ratification Election (TRE) by a vote of 6-0. The special election will be placed on the November 5, 2024 ballot.
The ballot proposition will ask voters to approve or disapprove the tax rate adopted by the Board of Trustees. If passed, it will allow the district to access the maximum amount of revenue from “golden pennies”, which is additional funding not subject to recapture and that will remain in the district.
The Board would use the additional funds to offset the modest pay raises used to recruit and retain high quality teachers and staff as well as use the funding to address safety and security by helping to pay for an armed officer at the campuses.
Oakwood ISD will be reaching out to all of our voters throughout the district in multiple ways over the coming weeks to ensure that all of the voters have enough information to make an informed decision during the election. There will also be town hall meetings for voters to ask questions regarding the election.
More information regarding the TRE, its financial impact, and voting locations will be available on the districts website at oakwoodisd.net/page/tax-ratification-election

With the new school year beginning, school buses will return to the roads. The Oakwood ISD Police Department urges everyone to be cautious while driving.
-- 🟡 Yellow lights on a school bus mean it’s preparing to stop. Slow down and stay alert.
-- 🛑 When the stop-arm is extended, you must stop. Passing a stopped school bus puts children’s lives at risk.
-- Watch for children waiting at bus stops and crossing the streets.
